Data import

Required user role: MEMBER

The Import feature must be enabled on the view.

The import button in the table toolbar (next to the export button) adds new data rows from a CSV file. The file has the same format as the export writes, so you can export data, change it in a spreadsheet and import it into the same or another bucket with the same view.

The file

  • The first line holds the titles of the columns, as they are shown in the table. A column of the file is imported into the column of the view with the same title; columns of the file that the view doesn't have are ignored.
  • Id, Reserved, Owner, Created at/by and Modified at/by are set by Databucket and are ignored when they are in the file. Each imported row is a new data row.
  • The Tag and the properties with an enum are given by name, as the table shows them (the id or the enum value is accepted too). An empty value means no tag, or no property.
  • Numbers, true/false (also 1/0, yes/no), dates as text, and JSON objects or arrays (as the export writes them) are converted according to the column type. A column of a nested property (e.g. $.address.city) creates the nested object.
  • Values are separated by commas, or by semicolons (Excel with a regional list separator, e.g. Polish). A value with a separator, a quote or a line break is enclosed in quotes, with quotes inside doubled: "Smith, ""Jr""". UTF-8 encoding, with or without a byte order mark.

Example for a view with the columns Tag, First name, Last name, Eye color and Height:

Tag,First name,Last name,Eye color,Height
active,Anna,Kowalska,Blue,Between 1m and 2m
analysis,Jan,Nowak,Green,More than 2m
,Maria,Wiśniewska,Grey,Between 1m and 2m
scheduled,Piotr,"Zieliński, Jr",Black,Less than 1m

Importing

  1. Click the import button and Choose file.
  2. Choose whether the new rows are Not reserved (no owner) or Reserved for me (I become the owner). The choice applies to all rows of the file.
  3. Check the summary: the number of rows, the imported and the ignored columns. Values that don't fit their column (an unknown tag or enum value, a text in a number column...) are listed with their row and column; a file with such errors can't be imported.
  4. Click Import.

All rows of the file are saved in one transaction: when saving fails, none of them is saved.
