DocBox v0.1.1

What's new

  • Faster reads. The OCR model stays loaded between reads, and PDF pages that already carry text are read directly instead of being OCRed.
  • Benchmarks. Compare OCR models on your own documents in the app: accuracy against cost, and a ranked leaderboard.
  • CLI and MCP server. Use DocBox from a terminal with docbox, or let AI agents drive it over MCP.

Fixes

  • The Linux AppImage starts again. In 0.1.0 it stopped at the setup screen.
  • Closing DocBox stops its background processes, and opening it a second time brings up the window that's already open.
  • Downloads work behind company proxies that inspect HTTPS.
  • First-time setup installs less: 33 packages instead of 50.

DocBox isn't code-signed yet. If Windows or macOS blocks it, see Install in the README.

DocBox logo

  • Windows 10 or 11: run the .exe installer, or the .msi. It isn't code-signed
yet, so SmartScreen may warn about an unrecognized app: choose More info, then
    Run anyway.
  • macOS 12 or later, Apple Silicon: open the .dmg and drag DocBox to
Applications. It isn't notarized yet, so macOS blocks the first launch: open
System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway next to DocBox.
  • Linux: download the .AppImage, chmod +x it and run it, or install the .deb.

The first launch sets up DocBox's own Python runtime. It takes a minute or two and
needs an internet connection.
