Kooo 0.3.0 beta 1

First public beta of a small native macOS input-source switcher.

Download and install

Download Kooo-0.3.0-beta.1-release-universal.dmg, open it and drag Kooo into Applications. Requires macOS 13+. The binary includes Apple Silicon and Intel code; current hands-on testing covers an M1 MacBook Air on macOS 26.6.2.

This beta is ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple. macOS may require Privacy & Security → Open Anyway after the first opening attempt. Accessibility access is required for Fn switching. See the installation guide before installation.

Features

  • Short Fn / Globe tap cycles enabled input sources on release.
  • Optional Option + 1–9 shortcuts and configurable source order.
  • Menu bar operation and optional launch at login.
  • English, Russian and Kazakh interface, automatically selected through macOS.
  • No third-party runtime dependencies, accounts, network requests or text logging.
  • Public executable excludes local measurement code and resources.

Known beta limitations

  • Replacing an ad-hoc build can invalidate Accessibility trust and require removing/re-adding the app's permission entry. A stable update experience remains open work.
  • Intel, older macOS versions, Secure Input, remote sessions and complex IMEs need further runtime testing.
  • No comparative speedup or first-character readiness guarantee is made. Ordinary-use measurements are ongoing separately.
  • Close the setup dialog before using the menu. Kooo has no Dock icon; exit through Quit Kooo in its menu.
  • Do not run Kooo Local or another Fn switcher at the same time. Set the system Globe action to Do Nothing while Kooo performs switching.

The DMG is accompanied by a SHA-256 file. Only the public edition is distributed in this release. Report problems through Issues; use the repository's private vulnerability reporting form for security reports.
