Kooo 0.3.0 beta 4
Kooo 0.3.0 beta 4
Fewer setup steps after installation:
- Fn switching is enabled by default and starts automatically once Accessibility access is recognized. There is no second manual enable step in the menu.
- A nonmodal setup window has direct Open Keyboard Settings and Open Accessibility Settings buttons, translated into English, Russian and Kazakh. The window does not block the menu.
- The DMG contains a prominent 1 - START HERE - Начните здесь.html offline guide in all three languages, plus plain text guides. It explains where to find macOS Open Anyway before the app can start.
- Permission checks run once per second only while setup is open and waiting. Checks stop after permission is granted or setup closes. App activation/menu opening also retry an enabled but inactive handler. Intentionally paused Fn switching stays paused.

First launch remains a macOS-controlled step: if blocked, close the warning, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Security, find Kooo and click Open Anyway. This button is not necessarily in the warning. This beta is ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple. Confirm only if you trust the download. No security protections are bypassed automatically.
In setup, set the system Globe action to Do Nothing, then grant Kooo Accessibility access. Kooo detects permission and starts Fn automatically. The status confirms its handler, not the external Globe setting. Existing deliberately disabled preferences are preserved.
Updating an ad-hoc build may still require removing/re-adding its stale Accessibility entry. Intel and older macOS runtime support remain unverified; minimum deployment target is macOS 13. Real permission-grant timing and the full quarantined installation flow still need revalidation on a clean Mac. Both Settings links were verified on the development Mac using an isolated UI preview without changing permissions or system Globe action.
Thirteen existing tests passed locally; Universal 2 release/local compilation, translation coverage, rendered setup layouts and packaged resources were checked. The public executable excludes local statistics. No CI is configured and no comparative performance claim is made.

The menu bar icon now matches the Finder app icon: a keyboard keycap with two opposing switch arrows. Finder keeps the blue dimensional artwork; the menu bar uses a crisp 20 × 18 pt vector template that macOS adapts to light/dark backgrounds and highlighted menus. The image is created once at startup.
Download Kooo-0.3.0-beta.3-release-universal.dmg and drag Kooo into Applications. Installation guide.
Requires macOS 13+. Includes Apple Silicon and Intel code; Intel and older macOS runtime support remain unverified. Switching behavior is unchanged. The public executable excludes local statistics code.
Ad-hoc signed, not notarized by Apple. First launch may require Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Quit Kooo before replacing the app. An update may invalidate Accessibility trust and require removing/re-adding the installed app's permission entry. Do not run Kooo alongside Kooo Local or another Fn switcher.
No comparative speed or first-character readiness guarantee is made. The DMG is accompanied by a SHA-256 file. Checks are performed locally; GitHub Actions is not configured.
Kooo 0.3.0 beta 2
Kooo 0.3.0 beta 2
Adds a new macOS-style application icon: a blue rounded tile with a raised keyboard key and opposing switch arrows. The icon is included in the app bundle for Finder, Applications and system dialogs. The menu bar retains its monochrome keyboard symbol.

Kooo 0.3.0 beta 1
Kooo 0.3.0 beta 1
First public beta of a small native macOS input-source switcher.
Download and install
Download Kooo-0.3.0-beta.1-release-universal.dmg, open it and drag Kooo into Applications. Requires macOS 13+. The binary includes Apple Silicon and Intel code; current hands-on testing covers an M1 MacBook Air on macOS 26.6.2.
This beta is ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple. macOS may require Privacy & Security → Open Anyway after the first opening attempt. Accessibility access is required for Fn switching. See the installation guide before installation.
Features
- Short Fn / Globe tap cycles enabled input sources on release.
- Optional Option + 1–9 shortcuts and configurable source order.
- Menu bar operation and optional launch at login.
- English, Russian and Kazakh interface, automatically selected through macOS.
- No third-party runtime dependencies, accounts, network requests or text logging.
- Public executable excludes local measurement code and resources.
Known beta limitations
- Replacing an ad-hoc build can invalidate Accessibility trust and require removing/re-adding the app's permission entry. A stable update experience remains open work.
- Intel, older macOS versions, Secure Input, remote sessions and complex IMEs need further runtime testing.
- No comparative speedup or first-character readiness guarantee is made. Ordinary-use measurements are ongoing separately.
- Close the setup dialog before using the menu. Kooo has no Dock icon; exit through Quit Kooo in its menu.
- Do not run Kooo Local or another Fn switcher at the same time. Set the system Globe action to Do Nothing while Kooo performs switching.
The DMG is accompanied by a SHA-256 file. Only the public edition is distributed in this release. Report problems through Issues; use the repository's private vulnerability reporting form for security reports.
