Design language around the files diff

I feel like being taken away from the context of the workspaces sidebar, the workspace it self and just being thrown to this massive full screen diff view is a bit off-putting. Ideally you'd only see this page after a full-screen prompt for the diff and by default when clicking on a diff on the right sidebar to just make a new "tab" with the diff for that selected file.
