Spell check only works in C/C++ files

I'm using Eclipse for C/C++ and can't get spell check to work anywhere except in C/C++ files. In the past I think I was able to work around some of the similar issues by choosing a different spelling engine but that setting is no longer. Is this an expected behavior? Any solutions exist to have spell check work in both C++ and other text files?

Looking at the source code, it's likely a CDT bug. The CDT's registered spell engine SpellingEngineDispatcher falls back onto the default spell engine for non-C/CXX content types. This plan falls apart when there is no default engine, or perhaps the dispatcher is nominated as one for the lack of other known engines, which is what happens when one is using the Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers package. This sort of violates the ISpellingEngine's contract that has this clause: In general a spelling engine should at least support the text content type.

It seems the underlying CSpellingEngine can check the text type, if so the dispatcher should default to it directly for plain text if the default engine is missing or otherwise cannot be used.
