The call that failed seems to be wget -q https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/binutils/binutils-2.42.tar.xz -O binutils-2.42.tar.xz with exit code 4.
According to the man page this means "Network failure.".

The script works on my local machine (GNU Wget 1.21.4 built on linux-gnu.).
