Why not add getSelectedNode (and possibly other utils) to the core library?

As I was exploring the code I came across this very helpful method - but was surprised to find it's not a core method.

  const anchorNode = selection.anchor.getNode();
  const focusNode = selection.focus.getNode();

  }
  const isBackward = selection.isBackward();
  if (isBackward) {
    return $isAtNodeEnd(focus) ? anchorNode : focusNode;
  } else {
    return $isAtNodeEnd(anchor) ? anchorNode : focusNode;
  }
}

I think this is enormously useful and should almost certainly be part of the core library. Is there a reason it's not? And is it possible that other "utils" might be in the same boat?
