Release list
v0.2.2
Docs a newcomer reads, from a colleague's cold run through the quick start. No code changes since v0.2.1.
- Quick start matches Slack's current screens. Step 2 walks the app-creation flow as it is now (YAML tab, Create and Install, Allow, then copy the User token from "Your app credentials", not the App Token), says what a non-admin sees when the workspace restricts installs, and step 4 shows what
whoamishould print. - 1Password is optional. An agent needs only
SLACK_USER_TOKENin its environment, set any way. The README and the skill's relaunch hint now lead with the quick start's ownread -rs, with 1Password as one option. - Shorter README. The credential chain moved to
docs/credentials.md; output, exit codes, the audit log, and the directory cache todocs/reference.md. A new Uninstall section covers the binary, the skill, local state, and deleting the Slack app.

v0.2.1
Fixes from walking through v0.2.0 the way a newcomer would.
- A bare name is a name, not a handle.
--with Kevinused to resolve silently to whoever held the handlekevin, even with a second Kevin in the workspace. Now@handlepicks exactly that person, and a bare word searches handles, real names, and display names together: two matches are exit 4 with the candidates, never a guess.users --matchlists every match for the same reason. If you scripted--with nameagainst a handle, add the@. - Archived conversations are marked.
channels --include-archivednow shows(archived)on those rows in text output. - Docs. The run-without-installing command works from a clone, the upgrade command rebuilds (
uv tool install --force --reinstall .), and the skill can be installed straight from a release zip.
Install the CLI from this release: uv tool install https://github.com/facetdigital/slackline/releases/download/v0.2.1/slackline-0.2.1-py3-none-any.whl (or pipx install the same URL), or from a clone with uv tool install .. v0.2.0
First open-source release, under the MIT license. The binary and the Claude Code skill release together under one version, declared in VERSION, pyproject.toml, the package, and the skill frontmatter, and kept equal by a test.
- People from other companies in shared channels (Slack Connect) are named. They used to render as
unknown:and as raw@U...IDs. They are now shown as@Jane Doe (ext), as speakers and in mentions, taken from the profile Slack attaches to their messages, else from one cachedusers.infolookup. JSONL records carryexternalandteam. A user nobody can resolve still renders as the ID, and the read still succeeds. - README: "What this is not." slackline-read is not an MCP server and not a full Slack API wrapper. It never writes, and that is enforced by a method allowlist, not promised. Writing belongs to
slackline-write, a separate planned executable.
Install the CLI from this release: uv tool install https://github.com/facetdigital/slackline/releases/download/v0.2.0/slackline-0.2.0-py3-none-any.whl (or pipx install the same URL), or from a clone with uv tool install .. The README's quick start covers creating the Slack app and token. Give the skill to a repo: unzip slackline-skill-0.2.0.zip into that repo's .claude/skills/. The skill never bundles the binary, and it tells a user without the binary where to get it.
