JBLControl 0.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Oct 15:32

What's new

Mac and Windows

  • Speaker photos are now built into the app for 17 models: Flip 5, 6 and 7, Charge 5 and 6, Xtreme 3, 4 and 5, Go 4 and 5, Clip 5, Grip, Boombox 3 and 4, Tuner 3, and the Flip and Charge Essential 3 SE. They show right away and work offline. Charge photos no longer stand on end.
  • Volume and mute, right under the speaker, while it's your computer's sound output.
  • A bigger battery percentage.
  • The equalizer chart now fits the speaker's real range (−9 to +6 dB) instead of leaving empty space at the top.

Windows

  • Finds your speaker again after you switch it off and on (no more ending the app in Task Manager).
  • No more crash when a speaker is switched off or goes out of range.
  • Keep Awake keeps working after a speaker drops out mid-tone.

JBLControl 0.8.0: a main window on Mac

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 17:39

What's new

  • 🍎 Mac: a main window. Like the Windows app, JBLControl on the Mac now has a full window: nearby speakers in a sidebar, the connected one in full with its presets, equalizer, details and Keep Awake, plus Settings and About. Closing it keeps JBLControl in the menu bar, where the panel works as before and gains an Open JBLControl button. Started at login, it still opens quietly in the menu bar.
  • 🪟 Windows: the equalizer now works with the keyboard and screen readers, and the tray panel's height is fixed.

Install

Mac (macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple Silicon or Intel)

  1. Download JBLControl-0.8.0.dmg below.
  2. Open it and drag JBLControl onto Applications (choose Replace if you're updating).

JBLControl 0.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 16:10

What's new

  • 🪟 JBLControl for Windows (preview). The same app, now on Windows 10 and 11 (x64 and Arm64): battery, EQ presets and custom equalizer, Keep Awake, low-battery alerts and start at sign-in, with a tray icon and a main window. Built natively with WinUI 3, and it connects without pairing.
  • 🍎 Mac: minor bug fixes and improvements.

About the Windows preview: so far it's only been tried with a JBL Flip 7, and custom EQ sliders and Keep Awake haven't been confirmed on Windows yet. If you try it, a device report helps a lot.

Choose a tag to compare

@ffrafat ffrafat released this 24 Oct 17:48

Verified: JBL Charge 5 ✅

Thanks to the first device report (#1, thank you @shortrockerz!), the JBL Charge 5 is now verified. Its custom bass/mid/treble EQ works straight away, no "Allow Experimental EQ" needed. The report also confirmed JBLControl runs on macOS Sequoia.

Verified models are now Flip 7, Charge 6 and Charge 5. Have another JBL? ••• → Copy Diagnostics and open a device report.

Install

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple Silicon or Intel).

  1. Download JBLControl-0.6.2.dmg below.

JBLControl 0.6.1

Choose a tag to compare

@ffrafat ffrafat released this 11 Oct 12:50

Improved

  • 🔎 Compact search panel. When no speaker is connected, the panel shows a small card ("Looking for JBL speakers…", "Connecting…", or what to do if Bluetooth is off) instead of the last speaker's name, battery and EQ. Nearby JBL speakers appear as buttons to connect.
  • Speakers that are switched off disappear from the Nearby list after a few seconds.
  • When a speaker disconnects, its details are cleared, so nothing from it shows when a different speaker connects.

Fixed

  • The first control in the panel (the Keep Awake cup) showed a focus ring when the panel opened.

Install

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple Silicon or Intel).

  1. Download JBLControl-0.6.1.dmg below.
  2. Open it and drag JBLControl onto Applications (choose Replace if you're updating).
  3. First launch: if macOS blocks it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/JBLControl.app.

JBLControl 0.6.0: Keep Awake

Choose a tag to compare

@ffrafat ffrafat released this 10 Oct 15:09

New

  • ☕ Keep Awake. JBL speakers turn themselves off after 10–20 minutes of silence, and JBL has no setting to stop it. Turn on Keep speaker awake (Settings → Speaker, or ••• → Keep Speaker Awake). While the speaker is your Mac's sound output, JBLControl plays a brief, inaudible tone every 5 minutes so it stays on.
    • Works with any JBL speaker, as long as your Mac is the audio source (not a phone).
    • While it's on, the menu bar speaker turns orange and the panel shows a ☕; click it to turn it off.
    • The speaker keeps using battery while it stays on.
  • 🔋 macOS-style battery in the menu bar and panel: percentage inside the battery, green with a bolt while charging, red when low.

Keep Awake is new. If your speaker still turns off, please open an issue with your model.

Install

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple Silicon or Intel).

  1. Download JBLControl-0.6.0.dmg below.
  2. Open it and drag JBLControl onto Applications (choose Replace if you're updating).
  3. First launch: if macOS blocks it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/JBLControl.app.

JBLControl 0.5.0: Intel & macOS 14+

Choose a tag to compare

@ffrafat ffrafat released this 10 Oct 13:30

New

  • 💻 Intel Macs supported. One universal download for Apple Silicon and Intel.
  • 🍎 macOS 14 Sonoma and later. Liquid Glass on macOS 26 Tahoe and later; the classic translucent look on Sonoma and Sequoia.
  • 🎚️ Compact panel. The equalizer only appears when Custom is selected; with a JBL preset the panel stays small.
  • 📦 DMG installer. Open it and drag JBLControl to Applications.

Thanks to everyone on r/JBL who asked for Intel and Sequoia support!

Install

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple Silicon or Intel).

  1. Download JBLControl-0.5.0.dmg below.
  2. Open it and drag JBLControl onto Applications.
  3. Open JBLControl. The first time, macOS blocks it because the app isn't notarized by Apple yet (that needs a paid developer account). Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/JBLControl.app in Terminal.
    Why this happens and why it's safe →
  4. Allow Bluetooth access when asked.

Intel and Sequoia support is new and untested on real hardware. Please open an issue if anything looks off.

JBLControl 0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@ffrafat ffrafat released this 10 Oct 08:03

Fixed

  • Battery showed over 100% while charging (e.g. 138%). The speaker marks charging with the top bit of its battery value; JBLControl now reads the real level from it.

New

  • 🔋⚡ Charging indicator. The battery icon in the panel fills to the real level, turns green with a bolt while charging, and red when low.
  • Menu bar battery (Settings → General → Show battery percentage) now draws a battery with its level and a charging bolt, like the system battery.
  • No low-battery alert while the speaker is plugged in.

Install

Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.

  1. Download JBLControl-0.4.2.zip below, unzip, and move JBLControl.app to Applications (replace the old one).
  2. First launch of a new download: if macOS blocks it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
  3. Allow Bluetooth access if asked.
