Getting Key and Priority from Java Class

I've been following the readme, and I was wondering how you can reference the Key and Priority using a Java Class

public class ChatMessage {
    String message;
    String name;

    public ChatMessage() {
    }

    public ChatMessage(String name, String message) {
        this.message = message;
        this.name = name;
    }

    public String getMessage() {
        return message;
    }

    public String getName() {
        return name;
    }
}

You cannot get these from within the Java class.

This is intentional. FirebaseUI follows a reactive/CQRS model, where
updates flow to the database through the Firebase API and those then flow
back into your POJOs.

To update an existing object, look up its reference via
adapter.getRef(position) and then call setValue() or updateChildren().

If this doesn't suit your needs, you can override parseSnapshot()

I just gave this a quick go in a minimal chat app and it works:

public static class ChatMessage {
    String name;
    String message;

    @JsonIgnore
    Firebase ref;

    public String getName() {
        return name;
    }

    public String getMessage() {
        return message;
    }

    public void updateMessage(String message) {
        ref.child("message").setValue(message);
    }
}

What's new in this ChatMessage class is that has a snapshot field that is ignored in the JSON serialization/deserialization and a new updateMessage method that updates the underlying message in the database.

With this class, you can override parseSnapshot() in your FirebaseListAdapter (or FirebaseRecyclerAdapter):

FirebaseListAdapter<ChatMessage> adapter = new FirebaseListAdapter<ChatMessage>(this, ChatMessage.class, android.R.layout.two_line_list_item, ref) {
    @Override
    protected ChatMessage parseSnapshot(DataSnapshot snapshot) {
        ChatMessage result = super.parseSnapshot(snapshot);
        result.ref = snapshot.getRef();
        return result;
    }
   ...

The different in from the standard parseDataSnapshot() is that this "injects" the Firebase reference for the object into the POJO. You could inject anything else you'd like too. For your example, I would probably inject the DataSnapshot (since that exposes both the getPriority() and getRef()), but I didn't want to put that as an example in the repo.

Now with this code, updating a message can be as simple as:

ChatMessage msg = adapter.getItem(0);
msg.updateMessage(msg.getMessage()+".");
