Project name suggestions (rename once we hit 100 stars)

"FPC Unleashed" is fine as a playful working name, but it isn't a great long-term fit: it carries the FPC trademark, which isn't appropriate for an independent, unofficial fork. So at some point the project should move to a neutral name of its own.

The plan: gather suggestions here now, and do the actual rename once the project reaches 100 stars. No rush while it's small - this is just to start collecting ideas early.

What makes a good candidate:

• neutral - no "FPC" / "Lazarus", and nothing implying official affiliation
• stands on its own identity
• short, memorable, easy to type
• ideally still available (GitHub org/repo, maybe a domain)

The fork stays Free Pascal-based - only the public name changes.

What's still available - and already claimed by me, for what it's worth - is ModernPascal. I grabbed both the GitHub name and the modernpascal.org domain.

Hmmm. I can't find OpenPascal on github. I am even able to create it on my own repository. I didn't, but it would not prevent me. It says it is open. That said, OpenPascal.org and every other variant is registered (but not deployed). You could force them to put up a site or lose it, but that's a pain (as of now it is unreachable on modern browsers). I'm not wedded to it. You could use the long OpenPascalFoundation.org, but not ideal.

Modern Pascal is ok, but it was used by Borland/Codegear/embarcardero etc. loosely for years to indicate Pascal with OOP. OpenXXX suffers from being overused. It does coincide with the project's openness to new improvements, but that isn't what most people will take from it.

Will keep mulling as I work.

Also. OpenPascal.io is available, a pretty tech oriented domain extension. It is more expensive though.

If that's not a 404, the name is taken. You can make a repo called openpascal on your own profile (github.com/Eudox67/openpascal), but that's not the same as owning the global identifier - the github.com/openpascal username or org. That one's gone. Same reason I grabbed modernpascal while it was still free.

As for .io: one .io costs about as much as 4-5 .org domains 😃 too expensive. I'm already sinking both time and money into this, so let's keep it cheap.

How about Ultra Pascal? UP with Pascal.

"Ultra Pascal" - not bad at all. The GitHub name was free, so I've grabbed it, and ultrapascal.org is still available too. That puts two on the table now: Modern Pascal and Ultra Pascal.

For the record I've only registered modernpascal.org so far - so fingers crossed nobody snaps up ultrapascal.org before the rename actually happens 😄
