Am I to understand correctly that GDSFactory+ has extended python compatibility 1.2.7-January 7

1.2.5 - January 6

• Cross-section creation - New option in left panel to create cross-sections directly
• SPICE support - Added SPICE netlist export capability
• Python 3.13 and 3.14 support - Extended Python version compatibility
• Single-click GDS view - Click on a factory to open its GDS directly instead of expanding the card
• Better error messages - Line numbers now included in factory error messages

...while currently GDSfactory installation suggest 3.12?

Installation

We support Python 3.11, 3.12 and 3.13, and recommend VSCode IDE and UV.

However we recommend python 3.11 or 3.12 as some extensions may not work on 3.13 yet.

gdsfactory does not really enforce a upper bound python version. So, you can easily install it in 3.14+ as well, just currently the tests are not there yet for 3.14. One of the main reasons is, klayout hasn't published 3.14 for windows yet.

As soon as that's fixed, I will make a pr to add it.

tl;dr on windows with 3.14 you'll have a bad time, everything else should work.

Using pip in 3.14, I was consistently getting unresolvable build errors, in Windows 11 and Ubuntu 25.10 that included a note in the error:

note: This error originates from a subprocess, and is likely not a problem with pip.

After your comment, I assumed I was the problem. I re-perused documentation and came across recommendations in several areas, GDSFactory training, GDSFactory+, Installation for contributors that uv is recommended. That was the solution.

Perhaps recommending uv on the main landing page instructions makes sense?
