Is there a way to include a box of text in homepage? text/markdown widget perhaps?

Is there a way to include a message/text in homepage? On my old and static homepage I used to include a small table with a mapping of what is connected to each port of my ethernet switch and would like to do something similar with homepage. Perhaps a nice way to do that is with a "text" widget, or better yet a markdown widget! Another way is just include raw html, but I'm not sure how...
