I would love to see a Traversal of the immediate children of Core so that we can use things like transform or cosmos.

If depending on lens is a problem, it's possible to just write the traversal without it:

I don’t have much experience with these, but I’ve got no objection to them. I’m pretty sure semantic depends on lens either directly or transitively, and I’ve no objection to semantic-core doing the same.

I don’t object to it at all. semantic itself depends on lens, and we’re probably gonna benefit from it in the future. Happy to accept a PR or timebox it next week.

@puffnfresh, just an FYI - #42 provides a recursion-schemes Base instance for Core, so you can also do folds and transformations that way.
