Time Lapse Photo & Last Captured

Hi there,
For my use case I was hoping to use the camera's standard timelapse photo mode, say at a 10 sec interval, and periodically request the last captured media file via the /gopro/media/last_captured http endpoint.
I have a Hero 12 Black which supports this endpoint. Will this work or does the camera running in time lapse photo lock media retrieval?
