101 First time config

If you are new to D-RATS, set up these items first.

Press [ALT+P] to open the config window.

  1. Under Preferences,

    • Be sure your callsign is correct.

    • Personalize the Sign-on, Sign-off and Ping reply messages.

      Note: If you plan to use Winlink, beware that the Callsign should be match your SSID on Winlink.

  2. Under "Gps config",

    • Set your latitude and longitude.

    • Update your "default GPS comment" clicking the DPRS button and set an icon of your choice.

      Note: This last point (clicking the DPRS button) shall be done every time you change your Callsign
      to avoid annoying yellow messages in the chat about checksum.

  3. Under Appearance, type your callsign on the Notice Reg Ex line,

    • To make callsign be noticed for upper and lower case, use enter your callsign, followed by (?i) .

  4. Under Sounds, assign .wav files for each event (not available on Linux distros).
    .

  5. Under Messages, enable "Automatically Forward Messages",

    • Set Queue flush interval to 30 seconds.

    • Set Station TTL to 600 seconds.

      Note: These settings should be "by default" starting with version 0.3.6.

  6. Under Transfers, enable "Remote File Transfers",

    • Set Warmup Length to 16.
    • Set Warmup Timeout to 0.

    Note 1: These settings should be "by default" starting with version 0.3.6.

    Note 2: Depending on whether you are going to use the RADIO, the NET or even a TNC
    you have to adjust so that the transfer is the most effective:
    Use 1.024 for NET,
    Use 512 for RADIO or TNC

    Warmup Length: The number of bytes to prefix to each packet after a period of idle.
    This may help to "warm up" a handheld radio on the receiving end that is in power save mode.
    Revert resets value to default settings.

    Warmup timeout: The number of seconds between transmissions that is considered to
    be "idle", thus causing the next transmission to include the prefix pad, as described above.

    Force transmission delay: Amount of time to wait between transmissions in seconds
    (a positive number is a fixed delay, a negative value means 'randomly choose between 0 and X')

  7. Click Save to close the config window.

  8. Personalize the My Status message in the lower right corner of the Main window. Delete the text and insert your own (e.g. Myname in City, State, [Locator]).
