Aspell Windows 10 for D-Rats

Download Aspell and the Aspell word dictionary for your language from: http://aspell.net/win32

The two Aspell .exe files are the installers for placing Aspell and its language dictionary in the correct locations for Windows 10.

The installation location is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspell

The Aspell executable is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspell\bin A path to the Aspell executable must be added to the Windows 10 "Path" environment variable in order for D-Rats to use it.

To add C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspell\bin to the "Path" environment variable, perform the following:

-- Type "env" (no quotations) in the Cortana 'Type here to search' box in the taskbar, usually at the bottom of the screen.
-- "Edit the system environment variables" will appear with "Open" below it.
-- Click "Open"
-- A "System Properties" window will appear.
-- Select the "Advanced" tab if not already selected.
-- Near the bottom of the "System Properties" window, click "Environment Variables..."
-- An "Environment Variables" setting window will appear.

-- Locate the word "Path" in the top white area titled "User variables for <<Your_User_Name>>.
-- Click once on the Path line to highlight it.
-- Click the "Edit" button
-- A new "Edit environment variable window will pop up.
-- There will usually be some items existing in the list.
-- The goal is to add the Aspell bin folder name to the list.
-- Click "Add"
-- Type or paste "C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspell\bin" (no quotations) in the line.

-- Locate the word "Path" in the bottom white area titled "System variables".
-- Click once on the Path line to highlight it.
-- Click the "Edit" button
-- A new "Edit environment variable window will pop up.
-- There will usually be some items existing in the list.
-- The goal is to add the Aspell bin folder name to the list.
-- Click "Add"
-- Type or paste "C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspell\bin" (no quotations) in the line.

-- Click "OK" on the "Environment Variables" setting window
-- Click "OK" on the "System Properties" window

To verify that the path includes the Aspell folder perform the following:

-- Type "cmd" (no quotations) in the Cortana 'Type here to search' box in the taskbar, usually at the bottom of the screen.
-- After the Command window pops up type "echo %PATH%" (no quotations)
-- A long string of characters of the path should appear with C:\Program Files (x86)\Aspell\bin, at the end.
-- This means that Aspell is in the path and D-Rats can use it.

To configure Aspell in D-Rats perform the following:

-- Open D-Rats Preferences under the File tab
-- Select Appearance
-- Enable the Check Spelling box
-- Click Save
-- Restart D-Rats
