Playback

Floppy doesn't play video itself and needs no other add-on. It hands movies and episodes to a player add-on you choose in Settings → Playback → Play items with:

Option What happens
None (default) Selecting a movie or episode shows a reminder to pick a player. Lists, watched state and actions still work.
Plugin path Plays through a path in any video add-on, or a player file. See below.
Custom URL Plays through URL templates you type in, using the placeholders below.

Plugin path

Pick a Movie path and an Episode path with their Browse buttons. Each opens a browser of your video add-ons:

  • Player files... at the top lists ready-made players for your installed add-ons (see Player files).
  • Pick an add-on to walk its folders. Its player files appear at the top of its first folder as Player: name.
  • Use this path picks the folder you're in. Picking an item picks that item's path.

A path you browse to is saved with its ids and titles turned into placeholders, so the setting shows what gets filled in. For example tmdb_id=27205 becomes tmdb_id={tmdb}, and title=Inception becomes title={title_url}. You can also type or edit a path by hand. A path with no placeholders gets the item's ids added to its query (tmdb_id, imdb_id, tvdb_id, season, episode, title, year), replacing any it already has.

Under each path is Movie/Episode path starts the video itself. Turn it on for paths that play the video on their own instead of handing it back to Kodi. Floppy then runs them with RunPlugin instead of PlayMedia. Picking a player file sets it for you.

Player files

Player files are the JSON files TMDb Helper uses to describe how to play through an add-on. Floppy reads them from these folders (neither add-on needs to be installed):

  1. addon_data/plugin.video.themoviedb.helper/players/
  2. addon_data/plugin.video.tmdb.bingie.helper/players/
  3. addons/plugin.video.themoviedb.helper/resources/players/
  4. addons/plugin.video.tmdb.bingie.helper/resources/players/

If two folders have a file with the same name, the first one listed wins. Only players whose add-on is installed are offered, in the player file's priority order. Floppy uses their play_movie and play_episode paths and their is_resolvable setting. Players that need TMDb Helper's step-by-step rules aren't offered.

Placeholders

Plugin paths and custom URLs are filled in the same way as TMDb Helper's player files.

Placeholder Value
{tmdb}, {id} TMDb id (the show's, for episodes)
{imdb} IMDb id (the show's, for episodes)
{tvdb} TVDb id (the show's, for episodes)
{season}, {episode} Season and episode numbers
{title} Movie title, or the show's title for episodes
{showname}, {tvshowtitle}, {clearname} The show's title
{eptitle} The episode's own title
{year}, {showyear} Year
{premiered}, {firstaired}, {released} Release or air date
{name} "Title (Year)", or "Show S01E02" for episodes
{poster}, {fanart}, {thumbnail} Artwork URLs, when known

Add a suffix to encode a value, for example {title_url}:

Suffix Encoding "Cat's Cradle" becomes
none as it is Cat's Cradle
_url URL-encoded Cat%27s%20Cradle
_url+ URL-encoded, spaces as + Cat%27s+Cradle
_+ spaces as + Cat's+Cradle
_- spaces as - Cat's-Cradle
_escaped URL-encoded twice Cat%2527s%2520Cradle
_escaped+ URL-encoded twice, spaces as + Cat%2527s%2BCradle

Unknown placeholders are left empty.

In TMDb Helper player files an episode's {title} is the episode's title. Floppy rewrites it to {eptitle} when it reads a player file, so player files work as written.

Resume

When a video starts, Floppy offers to resume from your saved Floppy position, unless the player add-on has already resumed. See Scrobbling and Resume.
