Is headroom safe to use with Claude Code subscription?

Hey Community,
just wanted to know if headroom is safe to use with Claude Code subscription?
Or do I need the API plan?
I've flicked trough the docs and haven't found any answer about that.
I don't want to loose my account. :)

it's likely against their TS since it's a proxy. Anthropic explicitly prohibits using Pro/Max OAuth tokens in any third-party tool (clarified Feb 2026) and has actively blocked this since April 5, 2026. Use at your own risk! Cool tool but very risky.

You can quote Claude if you get banned, it says it's fine :)

The key question with Claude Code is how you're running it. Based on Anthropic's legal and compliance docs:
The critical distinction is: calling claude (the real CLI binary) is allowed; extracting OAuth tokens to use in a third-party API client is banned. Third-party developers are not permitted to route requests through Free, Pro, or Max plan credentials on behalf of their users.
Headroom's headroom wrap claude mode spawns the real claude CLI subprocess — it doesn't extract your token or impersonate the Claude Code client. That's the allowed path. Anthropic documents first-class proxy support for Claude Code, so interposing a local proxy layer between your agent and the API is explicitly a supported pattern.
Developers building products or services that interact with Claude should use API key authentication through Claude Console or a supported cloud provider. If you're running this in an automated/production capacity rather than personal interactive use, you'd want to ensure you're using an API key rather than relying on your Pro subscription auth — but for personal daily use on your own machine, it's a non-issue.

I asked Claude Code to install it using Opus 4.8 Max and it says it is against ToS and it is risky, while it is ok if using API. Really I don't know if adding or not.

I have been using Headroom with Claude Code subscription and its been fine.

i use Claude endpoint directly - without any other intermediaries
