Document Management

Store per-vehicle documents such as registration, insurance cards, owner's manuals, warranties, and receipts.

What You Can Store

Each document is attached to a vehicle and has:

  • Title (required)
  • Document Type (optional) - Insurance, Registration, Manual, Receipt, Inspection, or Other
  • Description (optional)
  • The uploaded file

Supported files: PDF, images (JPG, PNG), and common office/text formats (DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, TXT, CSV), up to 25MB. MyGarage also records the file name, size, and upload date.

There are no tags, folders, expiration dates, reminders, or version history on documents.

Uploading a Document

  1. Go to the vehicle detail page
  2. Open Media, then Documents
  3. Click Upload Document
  4. Choose a file and enter a title (type and description are optional)
  5. Click Upload Document

Uploading, editing, and deleting documents require write access to the vehicle; viewing and downloading require read access.

Managing Documents

  • View / download - Open the Documents tab and download the original file.
  • Edit - Update a document's type, title, or description.
  • Delete - Removes the document record and its file. This is permanent.

Documents are listed newest first. There is no document search.

OCR

MyGarage does not extract or index text from documents. OCR is used only to fill in a form from an upload, for example reading a policy's details from an insurance declarations page (see Insurance).

Access Control (Multi-User Mode)

With local or OIDC authentication:

  • Owner / admin - Full access to a vehicle's documents
  • Write share - Upload, edit, and delete documents
  • Read share - View and download documents

Troubleshooting

Document won't upload

  • The file type is not allowed, or the file is too large
  • You need write access to the vehicle

Can't find a document

  • Documents are scoped to a single vehicle - check that vehicle's Documents tab
  • There is no global document search
