MountMate 6.4
Added
Shortcuts app
- New actions: Mount / Unmount / Eject Volume, Mount / Unmount Network Share, Mount All / Unmount All (volumes and shares), Eject All External Disks, Get Mounted Volumes, Get Network Shares, Is Volume Mounted.
- Mount actions return the mount point, so you can chain them (e.g. mount NAS → rsync → unmount).
Network shares
- Mount Read-Only option per share.
- Browse Network: find SMB/NFS servers on the local network (Bonjour).
- Export / Import shares (JSON, passwords never included).
- Mount All / Unmount All buttons and keyboard shortcuts.
- Almost-full warning, same as local volumes.
Volumes & disks
- Right-click: Rename Volume…, Verify Volume, Mount Read-Only, Copy Path, Open in Terminal, Forget Saved Password.
- Eject All External Disks (button, keyboard shortcut).
- Unmount When Idle (1–60 minutes without activity).
- Unmount all disks when the screen locks; Mount Again on Wake.
- Open in Finder after mounting (optional).
- Almost-full warning (80/90/95%) and SMART "Failing" warning.
- Notice when a disk is unplugged without ejecting (optional).
Notifications & feedback
- Optional notifications for Keep Alive failures, almost-full, SMART and more, with a "Reconnect Now" action.
- On-screen feedback after keyboard shortcuts ("Unmounted 3 volumes").
- Keep Alive shows a retry countdown, a "Reconnect Now" button and a reconnecting badge on the menu bar icon.
Other
- Copy Diagnostics for bug reports (no names, paths or passwords).
- Quieter update reminders; automatic update checks on by default.
Changed
- Keep Alive no longer keeps a NAS from sleeping, waits for slow USB drives, and checks less often in Low Power Mode.
- Faster disk list with hung drives, after plugging in a disk, and with fewer
diskutilruns. - AFP is deprecated: new shares offer SMB and NFS only (existing AFP shares still work).
- Force Eject stops and shows the error if the force unmount fails.
- Accessibility: Reduce Motion support, full keyboard navigation, better VoiceOver labels.
- Full Disk Access status shown in Settings.
- Shortcut labels follow your keyboard layout; Keychain items are labeled "MountMate – ".
- Logs go to the macOS unified log (Console.app).
- The update window shows what's new.
- Docs, website and README updated; CI added; internal refactoring with many new unit tests (no behavior change).
Fixed
- Keep Alive: reconnects shares that stop responding after a NAS restart or network change; stops retrying a rejected password (no more account lockouts); unlocks encrypted volumes with the saved password; proper retry backoff.
- Login & wake: shares mounting at login retry when the network isn't ready yet; Mount Again on Wake handles slow hubs, quick sleep/wake, ejected and busy disks.
- Share addresses: pasted URLs, UNC paths,
user@host, ports, IPv6 and encoded spaces now work; NFS paths are case-sensitive; Browse Network fills in a real host name. - Mount / Unmount / Eject: Mount All skips system partitions (Preboot, Recovery, Windows/Linux); busy volumes are skipped instead of colliding; Eject respects Protect; Eject All retries and explains failures.
- Free space: correct for shared APFS containers; no warnings for tiny partitions or read-only shares; can be silenced per volume.
- Duplicate UUIDs (cloned drives, flashed SD cards) are handled as separate disks.
- Custom mount points: refused for NTFS / third-party drivers, root paths and folders in use or not empty; untracked or unsafe
/etc/fstabrules are listed in Settings. - Time Machine disks and the built-in SD card reader are detected correctly.
- Encrypted volumes: stops after 3 wrong passwords; saves the password only after a successful unlock.
- Shortcuts: volumes with the same name, F13–F20/keypad keys, duplicate shortcuts refused.
- Menu scrolls on small screens; Fusion drives are listed once.
- Translations: proper plurals, translated permission prompts and many previously English-only messages.
- Security hardening for
/etc/fstabwrites and the Disk Arbitration callback; passwords hidden in all error messages.
