Attempt to launch Kitty's 'panel' kitten crashes hyprland, loads safemode

I've been using kitty kitten panel with a custom script as a low-tech status bar for a few months. After updating hyprland to 53.0, launching the panel immediately crashes hyprland and relaunches in safemode.

I initially thought the crash was related to my script, but the crash happens even when launching the panel "blank".

I've included the crash report. To my layman's eyes, it appears the crash happens when trying resize windows to make room for the panel.

I'm gonna level with you, I have no clue if I did this right. I'm on nixOS and I couldn't get hyprland to build in debug mode in the way the wiki described. (nixos-rebuild trace here)

I ended up just cloning the repo and following the manual build instructions from the wiki, then following the instructions you linked

(please go easy on me, i've never submitted a report like this and I am kinda dumb)

can you check git cuz a similar thing I fixed with bd02178

you didnt do it exactly right, gdb is good but build isnt debug

remember how I said I was dumb? I finally got the actual debug trace:

sorry about that. the first time, I launched the Hyprland from my PATH, not the one I built manually. realized it on my way home from work today and cringed hard. that's embarrassing.

Edit: I'm rebuilding my config rn, I'll try it out.

Work has been crazy, so I just got around to applying the patch. Still crashed. I won't be able to get more logs until after work. I'll update you when I can.

Facing the same issue. I am using this and it has been working fine till the recent update.
