I learned a lot between these versions. Mostly, I was reminded that the temptation to over-engineer an answer is way too high. After some frustration, I decided to fall back on the modularity that comes with Lua and Neovim, and learn from some of the single-file inits out there to solve problems like timing of when things load.

Now this works again from scratch to up and running -- mostly. There are a couple things I'm trying to figure out if they're the init's fault or my markdown's fault. But it's progress.
