How do I report issues with the tool?

We prefer that all issues with Anamnesis be reported here via the Issues tab. This ensures we are able to give each query the attention it deserves, and prevents issues from being lost amongst busy Discord channels. This also allows you, as the user, to see our progress on issues at a glance, as well as keep track of future features.

Reporting issues requires an email-verified Github account. We have chosen this route to dissuade people from simply spamming questions that have already been answered in this wiki, or on Discord. Issues should only be reported if they are legitimate bugs, or if the issue legitimately hasn't been covered in our extensive documentation. Please bear in mind that this project is worked on voluntarily during the developer's free time, and they aren't obligated to spend time fixing user-made problems or issues caused by misuse.

Can I be banned for using this tool?

Anamnesis edits data on the client's side, not the server. Technically, the only way SE can know if you're using Anamnesis or, for that matter, any other third party tool, is if:

  1. they have physical access to the computer you play on
  2. you announce in some manner that you're using third-party tools, or
  3. they start implementing checks in the game itself (note that it was stated in a Live Letter in 2020 that they are not prepared to do this).

Essentially, as long as you don't make it obvious that you're using the tool by way of having visiblly identifying information such as your character's name and World, or images posted to public-facing social media suggesting the use of a third party tool on an account that can easily be linked to your SE account, you have nothing to worry about.

Can any changes I make in the tool be sent back to the server?

As of August 2020, there have been no confirmed cases of client-side data being sent back to the server. The developers have created multiple trial accounts and made many obvious edits that should hypothetically be picked up by SE, including body features that should not be available to a character made in 2021 such as the Legacy (Meteor Survivor) tattoo, and have yet to receive any warnings or bans.

The tool will automatically revert all changes made to your character, then grey itself out when you enter any form of character generation to prevent changes being sent to the server as a precaution nonetheless. It is recommended that you save any appearances you wish to keep before entering a character editing screen so you can load them when you are finished.

What does 'Player Characters are not NPC-face compatible mean?

Prior to patch 6.25, Anamnesis used the 'NPC Face Hack' in order to make NPC faces work on Player Characters. Unfortunately, it is unstable and does not work for everyone, and had introduced problems relating to it. As such, as of patch 6.25 it has been removed and NPC faces will no longer stay on Player Characters when entering GPose. Please use a Carbuncle or Chocobo to apply NPC appearances. If you need additional actors, please see Asgard's Using Hidden Overworld Actors guide.

Why won't the weather change?

The weather system operates much in the same way as it does in game. Ensure you have turned off the 'Stop Time' function to force a weather change.

Additionally, the tool can only load 'valid' weathers. Please ensure the weather you have selected is valid for the area you're currently in.

How do I get other people to pose with me?

The easiest method is to have friends with you as you go into GPose, as they are already considered Player actors. If you cannot get people to assist you, however, you are able to use a variety of in-game entities. Further details can be found in the Using Other Entities as Extra Actors tutorial.

My hair is clipping into my head- how do I fix this?

This occurs when a loaded pose has modified the hair bones. This can be easily remedied by turning Physics on, then off again. Please keep in mind, however, that this may reset any changes made to long items like skirts, capes, etc., and as such they will need to be posed again.

How do I move clothing?

Depending on the piece of gear, you may be able to manipulate certain parts, as listed in the question above. As a general rule of thumb, if it moves in the wind in-game, it can be moved around. The applicable bones can easily be found in the PoseGUI tab, or in the last row of toggles in the Posing Matrix tab. It is highly recommended that you enable parenting when doing this.

How do I reset my appearance?

Given changes are not carried across loading screens, you can easily reset your appearance by forcing a loading screen with a title card. For example, teleporting from New Gridania to Old Gridania. This includes using an aethernet shard from one part of a city to another- for example, from the Gridania Aetherite Plaza to Mih Khetto's Amphitheatre.

Please note, however, that using the aethernet in the same zone will not work. For example, moving from The Gridania Aetherite Plaze to the Archer's Guild will not give you a title card, and will not reset your appearance.

When in doubt, teleport to an entirely different region.

I've finished using the tool; is there anything special I need to do?

Once you've finished your posing, close the tool and change areas following the guidelines in the question above.

However, if you've been doing substantial edits and poses over a long period of time, it's generally a good idea to exit the game and start it up again to make sure there are no lingering edits in the program's memory which may cause it to run slowly.

I loaded a pose and I'm floating in mid-air! What do I do?

This generally happens when the pose was made on a player that was sitting. There are two very simple ways to fix this:

  1. move yourself down along the Y axis in the Pose tab so your actor is where you want them to be; or
  2. reset your pose, sit down, then reload that pose.

Why doesn't this work on the Chinese/Korean client?

The developers of Anamnesis live in Australia, and use the International (JP/NA/EU) client. They do not have access to or have any feasible way to obtain access to the Chinese or Korean clients, and therefore cannot develop for them. However, framework has been added to support other regional clients that requires testing, so if you have access to these clients and would like to assist with adding support for them, please get in contact with the developers!

Do I need to do anything with the tool when the game goes down for maintenance?

Anamnesis only affects the game in real time, and doesn't modify game assets. As such, you don't need to do anything special with it when the game servers go down.

There is always a slight chance that the tool will not operate correctly when a new game patch is released, however; if this happens, the developers will need to take time to update the tool to work with the changes. Please note that in this case there can be no estimate as to how quickly an update can be released, given there are many factors involved. Please take into consideration that the developers are regular players just like you, and they deserve a chance to enjoy the game before feeling obligated to update a free tool for a subscription MMO. Users are also advised not to open tickets in this instance, as it will automatically be considered a known issue.

Why is my face all messed up after I load a pose?

Occasionally when loading poses that have extensive facial posing involved, you may end up with distorted facial features. This more often than not occurs when loading with Position mode enabled. To fix this, you will need to turn off Position mode and reload your pose.

Please note that this should be done before any positioning work, including moving weapons around, as turning Position mode off WILL reset any posing you have done. It is best practice to ensure you have NOT turned Position mode on prior to starting a posing session unless you need it.

My [head slot item] is all weird! How do I fix this?

Many head items can have their appearance toggled with /visor (e.g. Endless Summer Glasses) are rigged to or have additional rigging to the Helm bone, so you will need to manually adjust these items with the Helm bone selected in your Pose tab of choice if you have loaded a pose that did not take these kinds of items into account originally.

Why can't I can't pose while I'm on a mount?

This is an unfortunate limitation that we are not able to work around. To pose with a mount, you will need a second actor; change this actor into the mount you want to pose with, and then adjust your main actor accordingly.

Why won't this piece of equipment dye?

Dyes can only be applied to items that have been flagged as dyeable/have active dye channels. Accessories from the game itself are rarely given this flag, and will need to have it added via mods/TexTools. Given this is outside the scope of the tool, we will not provide instructions on how to achieve this.

With that said, however, many popular mods that replace right-side accessories are flagged as dyeable by their authors, and as such will be dyeable in the tool. Please check the individual mod to confirm whether or not they are dyeable, and contact the author if this is not the case.

I tried to load [monster] but its head is missing!

Many monster models, including beast tribe members, use the entire head item slot for their actual head. If you load a model and the head is invisible, please ensure you have headgear set to 'display' in the Character window in-game, as seen below:

Screen capture of the Character window in Final Fantasy XIV with the Hide/Display Headgear button highlighted.

Note: This seems to mostly apply to monsters added in 6.0, as monsters added in older expansions tend to have the head and torso connected.

Why won't the changes I make to my character stick when I move zones?

Anamnesis is a tool for taking screenshots, and cannot be used in place of things like Fantasia or wearing items available only through the Online Store, etc. Whilst people found it to be a useful 'feature' in Anamnesis' predecessor, it was actually a bug that was never fixed, and can have negative repercussions if done in Anamnesis due to how it interacts with the game's memory. The developers will not be adding this as a feature.

I opened an Issue or Feature Request but it was closed! What happened?

You very likely didn't complete the form correctly. To fully investigate and remedy issues, or to properly address feature requests, we need our templates completed entirely and kept intact. It is not fun for anyone to have to disseminate a wall of text, or have to ask for information we've already requested.

What does 'Unable to Find Actor' mean?

If you enter GPose and an actor you've pinned ends up with a red ring with the warning 'Unable to Find Actor' it means they were not brought into GPose with you, or cannot be manipulated in GPose (eg some background NPCs).

The easiest fix for this is to unpin and then re-pin the actor or, failing that, leave GPose and re-enter.

This is not considered a bug, as it is up to the game what is allowed into GPose, especially in highly populated areas. As a rule of thumb, if you untick every box under 'Non-controlled Characters' in the Character Display Settings within GPose itself and you can't see the actor you're trying to manipulate, they have not entered GPose with you.
