The data on mortality are available from the Human Mortality Database. The version of R used in this study is 4.0.2.

R code can be found in the three files:

1. calc.rec.r contains the codes for calculating Tables 1 and 2 and plotting Figure 1, 2, 4, an 5.
2. edag.r provides several functions for calculating e.dagger, a.dagger etc.
3. simulations.r contains the codes for the simulations based on various scenarios and for plotting Figure 3.
