Welcome to iNaturalist's Open Source Discussions

iNaturalist's code is open source primarily for transparency — we want our community to be able to see how the platform works. We're a small team, and our capacity to actively collaborate with external contributors is limited.

That said, this space exists for a couple of reasons:

• You're building something that integrates with or extends iNaturalist and have a technical question
• You're trying to run locally, have already spent time exploring the usual avenues of unblocking yourself and need some guidance.

In either case, please post your question to the Q+A section of Discussions. If someone else had your question before, you'll see that there.

Please know that we may not be able to respond quickly. We're a small team. If something is time-sensitive, please use our forum:
