Indx 2.0 beta 2

A search that answers questions, an agent that watches how it is used, and a console rebuilt around your datasets.

A dataset's statistics in the new console

  Search or ask

One search field that also answers questions. A visitor who types a name gets results, as always. A visitor who types a question gets results too, and an offer to have it answered in writing, from your own records, with the sources cited. On a catalogue, a description such as "funny space movies from the 80s" becomes filters on the list.

It runs on your own model key (OpenRouter, Anthropic or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint) and is off until you switch it on, dataset by dataset. @indxsearch/intrface 3.13 has the front end, and the guide walks through the settings. Experimental in this beta.

  Observr

An agent that reads how your search is used and tells you what to do about it. Every morning it looks over each watched dataset's statistics and puts what deserves attention on the dataset's Status page: searches that found nothing, results nobody clicks, a field that should be searchable, a synonym your visitors need. Each finding comes with the change that would fix it, and a Yes carries it out. Ask it anything in the Agent panel, or press Why nothing? on a search that found nothing.

Observr is part of the Pro and Enterprise subscriptions, in early access. It sends summaries, never whole records and never who a visitor is; the guide lists exactly what.

  A console around your datasets

A dataset's sections now sit in a side column, grouped as Overview, Data, Relevance, Try it and Settings, with the dataset and team switchers at the top. It works on a phone, statistics show their outline while the numbers load, and a new team starts with a short guide to its first dataset.

Also new

  All data in one folder
Indx:DataDirectory places every file the server keeps, so a new version can replace the app without touching your data.
  Backup on request
The verified backup runs within seconds when asked, so you can take one right before an upgrade.
  Typing counted once
Search-as-you-type is folded into the search a visitor ended on, across backspaces and pauses.
  Sharp on every screen
Every icon is drawn at a size its pixels divide into, crisp on a standard display too.
Plain words for a sleeping dataset
A search on a dataset that is asleep says so in a sentence a search box can show.
  Your licence stays yours
A build no longer carries a local licence file into its output.

Upgrading from beta 1

Nothing to change: no route, request or response from beta 1 has changed in a way that breaks a client. Pull, build and run. The changelog lists every change.

Quick start

git clone https://github.com/indxSearch/Indx
cd Indx
dotnet run

Open https://localhost:5001. The first visit walks you through a short setup, and nothing needs configuring beforehand. Requires the .NET 10 SDK.

Indx 2.0 beta 1

Self-hosted search for your JSON data, with a console for the people who run it.

Indx 2.0 is a new server around a new engine. Upload a JSON array, choose which fields are searchable, and you have typo-tolerant search over HTTP, a dashboard your whole team can use, and an MCP endpoint your AI agents can query. It replaces IndxCloudApi v1, and the repository is now called Indx.

  Change things while they run

Replace every document in a dataset, or change how its fields are searched, and the new index is built beside the live one. Search keeps answering the whole time, and the switch happens when the new index is ready. Nobody has to plan a maintenance window.

  See what people meant

Indx matches on patterns in what people type, so it finds the marble lamp from "mrbl". The statistics catch it: which misspelled searches still found something, and what people chose. Alongside that you get the month at a glance, top queries, top documents and what people filter by. Statistics are experimental in this beta, and the numbers may still change.

  Work on it together

Datasets belong to teams, and everyone gets a role: Admin, Editor or Viewer. Switch team or dataset from the breadcrumb in one click.

Also new

  Native MCP
Point Claude, Cursor or any MCP client at your server with an API key, and your agents can search your data.
  Hybrid search
Pattern matching and embeddings in one search.
  Dynamic data
Insert, update and delete documents without a rebuild, by key or by filter.
  Live search preview
Tune relevance against your real data, with facets and filters, right in the console.
  Boost rules and synonyms
Scheduled boosts for campaigns, and synonyms per dataset (experimental).
  Hibernation
Quiet datasets sleep and wake on demand, so memory goes where the traffic is.
  Scoped API keys
Search, Read or Full keys, bound to a team and its datasets.
  Faster and leaner
A new engine underneath, IndxSearchLib 5, with lower memory use.
  Open source
MIT licensed. Run it anywhere .NET 10 runs.

Quick start

git clone https://github.com/indxSearch/Indx
cd Indx
dotnet run

Open https://localhost:5001. The first visit walks you through a short setup: create the admin account, name your team, and pick a few instance settings. It takes under a minute, and nothing needs configuring beforehand.

Requires the .NET 10 SDK.

Upgrading from v1

2.0 is not a drop-in upgrade: routes are now team-scoped, errors have a standard format, and the binary is renamed. The Indx Search skill ships a migration guide, and a coding agent using it can do most of the work. The full release notes list every change.

Licence

The server is MIT licensed. The bundled search engine is free up to 100,000 documents, and a free licence from the Indx License Portal removes the limit. The server can fetch it for you.

v1.0.2 with OAuth security improvements and Swagger updates

Choose a tag to compare

@a-nt a-nt released this 20 Jan 21:29

This minor release addresses an issue in the OAuth configuration where the domain restrictions did not apply to OAuth accounts.

This project now also features an /llms.txt file that can be used to easily get coding agents up to speed with the concepts of Indx Search
