[Bug]: error reporting for smdk publish when a package-meta.yaml file inside the ipkg is obscure

**What happened**
A file sys corruption inside a ipkg file caused a corruption of the package-meta.yaml file inside an ipkg during a `smdk publish` operation

smdk reported:
```
Error processing yaml file
  control characters are not allowed
```

**Expected behavior**
clearer errors should have been reported with added context
