Content Packs

Content packs are folders of extra data that Ionrift modules read from your Foundry Data folder. Unzip a pack into the overlay folder on disk, then reload the world.

Packs add to the modules you already run, so the matching module needs to be installed and enabled.

Where packs go

Every pack lives under your Foundry Data directory, next to modules and worlds:

ionrift-data/overlays/{moduleId}/{pack-folder}/

Give each pack its own subfolder inside the module's overlay folder so that overlay-manifest.json sits directly inside {pack-folder}/:

Module Pack folder
Respite ionrift-data/overlays/ionrift-respite/{pack-folder}/
Quartermaster ionrift-data/overlays/ionrift-quartermaster/{pack-folder}/
Resonance ionrift-data/overlays/ionrift-resonance/{pack-folder}/
Cursewright ionrift-data/overlays/ionrift-cursewright/{pack-folder}/

Self-hosted: unzip into the same Foundry Data folder that holds your worlds and modules folders. Hosted servers: upload the extracted pack folder through your host's file manager. On The Forge, see Installing on The Forge.

Updating a pack

Unzip the newer version over the same folder, then reload the world.

Removing a pack

Delete that pack's folder under ionrift-data/overlays/, then reload. Data and art from that pack stop loading.

Modules are separate

Premium and Early Access modules (Cursewright, Voice) are not packs. They install through Foundry's Add-on Modules with a personal link from the Module Shelf. See Setup: Cursewright and Setup: Voice. Free modules install from Foundry's package browser or their GitHub manifest.

Custom event imports (Respite)

GMs can import custom .json event packs directly into Respite:

  1. Open Game Settings > Module Settings > Ionrift Respite.
  2. Open Curate Event Pool (or Import Custom Events where shown).
  3. Select your JSON file. Review the validation report, then save the event pool.

Each event uses terrainTags to say where it can fire. If a tag is not in the shipped or installed overlay set (for example crystal-cavern), Respite registers it as a custom terrain in the environment dropdown. Rest events for that tag work normally.

Custom terrains created from event imports are rest events only. Travel, forage, and hunt stay off for that tag. Those mechanics come from terrain overlay packs on disk, not from the event JSON import. For travel today, pick the closest built-in or installed terrain (for example Dungeon or Catacombs for underground travel-off rests).

Feel free to share event packs in #community-packs on the Ionrift Discord.

What packs add

Many features expand from installed packs:

  • Respite Terrains: A terrain overlay (for example Ruins, Catacombs, Arctic) registers environments in the rest setup dropdown.
  • Quartermaster Loot: Gemstones, treasure, and terrain-specific containers feed the Loot Cache generator.
  • Resonance Sounds: Sound packs on disk merge bindings with the active sound set after you apply your Resonance sound preset.
