The definition of some-config-namespace/my-gateway is invalid in networking/v1alpha3/gateway.proto and https://preliminary.istio.io/docs/reference/config/networking/v1alpha3/gateway/

The same file contains a VirtualService that is invalid, bookinfo-rule

unknown field "user" in v1alpha3.StringMatch

That error comes from the fragment

    - headers:
        cookie:
          user: dev-123

The message is obscure. It might be worth improving ValidateVirtualService() in the implementation so that the message is something like "Header "cookie" value must be a string".

The same file contains a Gateway "my-gateway" which fails with

* error validating resource (networking.istio.io/v1alpha3, Kind=Gateway Name=my-gateway Namespace=): short names (non FQDN) are not allowed in Gateway server hosts

I suspect this is caused by

    hosts:
    - "ns1/*"

But I am not sure! Perhaps the validation logic should say something like "short names "xyz" (non FQDN) not allowed in Gateway server hosts" so that the user would see which name is the problem.
