Bug: Activities in the General section are not displayed

Yesterday I updated my dev system:

• Moodle 5.0.3 (Build: 20251006)
• Multitopic format: v5.0.0 - 2025092602

I noticed that the activities in the general section are no longer displayed.
If you move them to another section in the course structure, they reappear.
I took a look at the CSS for one of the courses and found that the corresponding container has a “display: none” tag.

If I change the setting for collapsing the section in the faulty course, it does not receive any other CSS markup to control the show markup.

In a test in another course, the behavior does not seem to be the same...
I cannot reproduce the error in a copy of the incorrect course. Could it be that an old setting has somehow been carried over?

Hi @stdoma,

Thanks for reporting this. It looks like when I dropped my custom section content template in Multitopic 5.0 in favour of the default Moodle one, I failed to notice a change I had made to prevent collapsing sections that aren't supposed to be collapsed. I guess you probably had the course in Custom sections format, and collapsed the General section, then converted it to Multitopic format? I've written a quick patch that I think will fix it, but I'll have to do more testing.

Yes, it could be that I tested other course formats in the course.
In the past, I had compared different formats.
In this case, the bug should not have any impact on my live system.
But security checks are always a good thing. ;)

I think it could be an issue if a student views a course when a topic is collapsible, then the teacher changes the topic to not be collapsible, so it is probably something I need to fix.
