Sync takes ages from the beginnig of january 2026 and makes impossible to mark items as read

Starting from this month, I noticed that syncing with FreshRSS takes ages (even with the current version 1.28.1).
I use sync on start-up of the application, and in the past it worked flawlessly.
I could even mark as read items while the app was syncing. Now it is impossible and each time I have to verify that the spinner is not running.

There have been a few releases of Capy and FreshRSS so I cannot recall when exactly started. I tried to look for logs on Capy but I haven't found them.

@jocmp may you give me a suggestion? I'm more than happy in debugging this issue. For now I've moved to manual sync.

Hi @jocmp thanks for the suggestion. Clearing the local database has dramatically improved the situation, making the sync work like a charm.

However the deletion message does not help the user in doing the cleaning process, since it does not clearly state that the remote read articles are not actually deleted.

Currently my setting is to keep read article for 3 months, I'll change the setting to 1 months.

@jocmp cleared the local database and setting history to 1 month worked for a few days. Then the sync is super slow again. Now reducing to two weeks (app version 2026,02,1194). Probably I have too many feeds, but other apps work well (es. NetNewsWire) :)

Thanks for letting me know! This is is still top of mind for me. I have a few more points of exploration, but even with 10k articles, there's no reason it shouldn't work well.

There's a few performance changes in the works that I hope will help:

• Migrate preferences to DataStore #1822
• Enable SQLite foreign key enforcement #1787
• Use numeric primary keys for articles #1788

I've tested the last release 2026.05.1208 and it works great for offline sync, but I have to clean up the local cache each few days despite it is set to 1 week. Referencing also #1112 (comment) since you mentioned "For this issue around better syncing, I still have ideas on how to solve it, but no plans to address it in the short term."
