Media Files (.jpg, .pdf, etc) Do Not Appear in Search Results

I can upload pdf or jpg files and they can be tagged, but I am unable to see them within search results. The only way I've been able to find those media file is through the tags or creating a smart list. Otherwise, if I use the search bar for the name of the file, "is:media", or the tag itself (#example), the media file does not appear in the search results. But, for example, a smart list using "is:media" will show all media files (such as pdf and jpg).

Just checking to see if this is expected behavior. Thank you!
