This profile will provide some background information to the First President of Republic of Mali.
Modibo Keïta was the first President of Mali and the Prime Minister of the Mali Federation. Born on June 04, 1915 Bamako, Mali. Married Mariam Traore. The Mali Federation was comprised of Senegal and the Sudanese Republic.The former Mali Federation was composed of the Republic of Senegal and the Soudanese Republic, both former colonies of
France. On August 20, 1960, the Senegalese Assembly, after a series of political crises, passed a decree annulling its
participation in the Mali Federation and denying any further competence over it by the Federation. The Government of
Soudan immediately denied the lawfulness of this action, but the Government of Senegal claimed that its secession was
legal. In late 1950's to early 1960's there have been a wave of Independence in West Africa.
There was a Federation of Mali which comprised of Sudanese Republic and Senegal.
Modibo Keita has been the first president of Federation of Mali with capital in Dakar, Senegal.
