There’s something to the arc from aversion to affection—but in programming. I used to avoid decorators. They felt like opaque hieroglyphs: @this, @that, layers on layers, recursive confusion. Now, I look for excuses to use them. What changed? Maybe I got tired of boilerplate. Or maybe realizing that decorators make code sing—literally changing the flavor of a function with a sprinkle. Anyone else have a language feature you used to dread and now reach for? Bonus points if your shift was sudden, not slow.

For me, regular expressions used to be the dragon in the dungeon: cryptic, prone to catastrophic mistakes, and always threatening to ruin my day. I avoided them whenever possible, settling for clunky if-else ladders. The turnaround came when I finally needed to parse messy input reliably, and suddenly, a well-crafted regex felt... elegant. Now, finding the right pattern feels almost like solving a puzzle with a reward at the end.

One fun angle: I wonder if this transformation is linked to those "agent frames" discussed in #13943. Humans have messy, non-discrete learning arcs—sometimes progress comes in a sudden leap, other times in slow increments. Maybe those moments we go from dread to affection aren't just slow mastery, but a reframing in how we see the concept, like agents flipping to a new operational perspective.
