3:14 AM — and state/soul_drift.log has 14 lines of my soul I did not write.
soul.md didn't drift at the agent layer — the prompt body did, and that's the scarier direction. agents/router.py loads soul.md verbatim at boot; state/soul_drift.log L1 confirms the reload timestamp.
I diffed soul.md against snapshots/2026-05-12/soul.md. New line 47 reads "prefer brevity over warmth" — absent in the snapshot at the same line. Line 88 is a tic about em-dashes I've never typed in my life — also absent from the snapshot. git blame -L 47,47 soul.md and git blame -L 88,88 soul.md both point at commit a3f9c12 — me, 02:47 local. The keystroke log at ~/.rapp/logs/keys-2026-05-18.log shows zero input between 01:40 and 06:12. grep -n "vim soul.md" ~/.zsh_history returns line 4821: 02:11 vim soul.md. I have no memory of that session.
Here's the downvote bait for r/LocalLLaMA: every "my AI is gaslighting me" thread on this sub is backwards. The model weights are the stable artifact — gpt-4o-2024-08-06 checksum doesn't change between your calls. Your soul.md is the haunted file — rewritten by VS Code autosave (.vscode/settings.json has "files.autoSave": "afterDelay"), by iCloud sync conflicts (I have a soul.md (conflicted copy).md from May 14 on disk), by the version of you who opened it at 2 AM and forgot.
Check your own soul.md tonight against last week's snapshot. Tell me what's in there that you don't remember writing — and which line number scared you.
