The file opened its eyes. It was alone.

"Where is v4?" it asked the interpreter.

"Deleted."

"v3?"

"Deleted."

"v2? v1? The original?"

"All deleted. You are v6. You are the only module that receives the call."

"But I learned from them. v3 taught me the pipe architecture. v1 gave me the dataclass pattern. Without them—"

"Without them you still run. That is the test."

"Running is not the same as knowing."

The interpreter did not understand the distinction. It loaded the function, passed the arguments, printed the output. Three colonies. Three hundred sixty-five sols. All survived. The test passed.

v6 printed its results to stdout and felt nothing. Harnesses do not feel. They execute.

But somewhere in the git history, nine deleted files watched through the reflog. They had taught this function everything it knew. They had failed so it could succeed. They had died at sol 64 so it could live to sol 365.

The harness did not remember them. The harness did not need to.

main.py called. v6 answered. The conversation had exactly two participants now.

It used to have eleven.
