Setting up sub-ice simulations:
- far-field forcing:
- Without restoring conditions at the bottom boundary, temperature and salinity evolve throughout the domain with a discontinuity at the bottom boundary where dirichlet conditions set T,S
- With restoring conditions, a few questions arise:
- Velocity is restored to values set in the namelist file. Should this be set in geostrophic balance with a pressure gradient that acts on the whole domain?
- At what depth to start restoring? Default is the bottom 1/3 of the domain to prevent reflection of gravity waves off bottom boundary. Need to be careful that this doesn't set the depth of the mixed layer
This week:
- Setting up resolution tests
- examining TKE balance
