People, like me, following this as a step-by-step from a clean laravel installation would not have been prompted to run php artisan storage:link , and the reference to this command is only in 'digging deeper' in the main laravel docs. We either need to prompt people to run the command, or point them at the filesystem section of the main laravel docs. (Otherwise they can spend a frustrating hour or so!)
