Extended Description

The patch contains updates taken mostly from FreeBSD's source tree. Other platforms shouldn't be affected.
The main new feature is the addition of -fformat-extensions, required to build the FreeBSD kernel and also available on clang. The FreeBSD specs also required some twitches for building kernels but that it confirmed to work. FreeBSD will now use the Solaris threading model, as was done upstream (in both FreeBSD and gcc).

I also added the -Wtrampolines and some bug fixes from OpenBSD.

Also, while here, I added a couple of really minor fixes that were left out of bug 9031.

Hmm.. a note for the reviewer:
The only change I have some doubts about is in gcc/function.c
which corresponds to a FreeBSD change to support -mprofiler-epilogue.

This very probably doesn't apply to llvm-gcc anyways, so feel
free to ignore that specific patch.

patches for libgfortran and libstdc++3 from the gcc42 branch
While I was looking at the patches of the gcc 4.2 branch I noticed there was no license change for the libraries included in gcc: in particular there are no references to LGPLv3 in the libstdc++3 or the libgfortran directories.

This amy be explained because LGPL Version 3.1 in current gcc libstdc++ is dated 31 March 2009 but the latest libstdc++ for the 4.2-branch was released in 2008-05-19.

The changes are rather small so I thought I'd attach them for review.

I took out some unnecessary fixes because the previous patch was causing build troubles on Darwin.
This is the minimal patchset to add FreeBSD extensions and the specific updates so FreeBSD kernels can be generated.

Minor misc patches
These are minor pretty innocuous patches that should be committed nevertheless:

• Updates to the sparc freebsd header.
• Document an optimization bug that shouldn't be active with llvm anyways.
• A minor S390 update from upstream.

BSD format extensions for gcc
For convenience I separated (again) the patch into a system independent patch with the format extensions and a FreeBSD-only patch (coming immediately after this).
This will make things easier to commit and to check potential regressions (hopefully none).

These changes should only have effect on FreeBSD. They are based on FreeBSD's in tree gcc-4.2.1.

miscellaneous/small fixes
Two changes that are rather irrelevant for most developers, but while here it doesn't do any harm to have them:

This disables the default tree-vrp optimization since it's known to be broken on gcc 4.2.x, and there's no GPLv2 fix. This has no effect when llvm is targeted but it's good to disable it nevertheless.

It also fixes a typo in the S390: it comes from upstream and is under GPLv2.

Fix warning with GNU ld >= 2.17
This cleans up a warning that appears with ld >= 2.17.

/usr/bin/ld: error in /usr/home/kargl/work/lib/gcc/i386-unknown-freebsd9.0/4.6.0/crtend.o(.eh_frame); no .eh_frame_hdr table will be created.

This is needed to run the regression tests on FreeBSD 9.0 and upper.
The patch was provided by Steve Kargl.

FreeBSD format extensions for gcc
Due to an incomplete merge from my part format-extensions were being set by default, breaking one regression test. Fix that situation: thanks to Stuart for pointing out the problem.
I also decided to trim the trampoline warning from the patch. People don't usually build trampolines by accident. If there is interest I can port it along with some other warning added by OpenBSD in the future, though.

Fix warning with GNU ld and workaround i386 detection.
In addition to the warning on newer gnu ld (>=2.17) a long standing issue with i386 detection has been addressed recently: gcc would always set i386 as the cpu but FreeBSD versions above 6.0 require at least 486.

I added a patch for this based on a FreeBSD ports tree patch:
