New customers not shown on backend. Seems indexer customer_grid not re-indexing.

Preconditions

1. v2.1.8
2. PHP 7.0.20

Steps to reproduce

1. Create an account on frontend or webapi
2. Check backend customer list

Expected result

1. Newly created customer(s) shown on customer_grid.

Actual result

1. Customer grid not been updated. If i run bin/magento indexer:reindex customer_grid, customers comes to grid. I think it is related about scheduled customer_grid indexing. There is nothing in logs/reports.

What indexer mode do you use for customers: UPDATE ON SAVE or UPDATE BY SCHEDULE?

@orlangur All crons set scheduled and all other scheduled indexes working fine. It seems to be just related about customer_grid indexer.

The fix for this issue is already available on Magento 2.2.0 branch.

But, we are not planning to upgrade 2.2.0 in near future.

How can we fix this for 2.1.8 ?
