How to create a reactive plot across cells

I have two cells, one which is used to pick a file and open it, and one that is used to plot the result. I cannot seem to get the two to be reactive. Here is my code:

        on_change=handle_file_select,

def _(plt, img):
    if img is not None:
        plt.imshow(img)
        plt.tight_layout()
        plt.show()

maybe try this instead:

mo.stop(not img)
plt.imshow(img)
plt.tight_layout()
plt.gca()
