Installation

While Raven can be installed on any AREDN node, we have some recommendations for the best experience.

Node Recommendations

We recommend choosing a node with the following characteristics:

  • Pick your primary node; the one which resolves from http://localnode.local.mesh to make it easy to see your messages.
  • Pick a node with plenty of RAM. RAM is used to store large shared messages (e.g. images).
  • Pick a node with plenty of FLASH. FLASH is used to persist messages.

Installing the Raven package

You can find the latest Raven installation package here https://github.com/kn6plv/Raven We distribute Raven as two different packages; an IPK and an APK.

  • IPK is used to install Raven on AREDN release 4.26.1.0. We don't recommend installing on earlier versions.
  • APK is used to install Raven on Nightly Builds and releases after 4.26.1.0

Which ever package you are using, install it using the usual AREDN installation procedure (see http://docs.arednmesh.org/en/latest/arednGettingStarted/node_admin.html#upload-package)

The first time you install Raven, it may take a little time to complete as it must make changes to the node's firewall and create some initial configuration.

Once installed you can start using it (see Getting Started).
