Terminal does not activate virtual environment

I have a new python project, with a .venv directory that is correctly picked up by the Python extension. The virtual environment is obviously used correctly when I edit the files, but when I start a terminal, the venv is not auto-loaded, even though python.terminal.activateEnvironment is true

Steps to reproduce:

1. Load the directory in VSCode
2. Start a VSCode Terminal
3. Try to run the python script.

Your suspicions are correct. It is malware. 17 positives on VirusTotal, but it evades the MediaFire auto-check by being in a password-protected archive.

@ksylvan Can you share the logs from Output > Python? also, can you run python -c "import sys;print(sys.executable)" to see which one is shown?

A think you can try is setting this python.experiments.optOutFrom to ["pythonTerminalEnvVarActivation"]

@karthiknadig setting python.experiments.optOutFrom to ["pythonTerminalEnvVarActivation"] did not change anything.

But it was my mistake anyway. Closing this. I had a shebang at the top of the file #!/usr/bin/env python3 - and changing it to python fixed my issue.
