Test Extension won't show up after ctrl+p configure tests with pytest

Behaviour

In either a remote dev container ( a local docker image) or my host vscode, I can't get the test extension that allows me to debug pytests to show in the extension lists anymore after an upgrade to the latest vscode version. 1.96.3 and 1.96.2 have this issue.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install the new vscode.
2. have a tests/ folder with pytests
3. pip install pytest
4. cntrl+p and then configure tests, select pytest
5. nothing happens in the UI at all, there's no error output suggesting an issue with test discovery and no text extension icon shows on the left. there are no logs in the output panel.

huh very interesting! I have not seen anything like this before. Can you look in your "output" then python to see if there are any logs?

thanks for taking a look, in the gif I'm looking at the Output pane and it is empty. I can't get any info in the Output pane when using a devcontainer or vscode on host.

can you use the command palette command 'python: show output' and see if there is anything in that output stream? Also can you use the command palette command 'developer: set log level' and set that to trace to see if more logs show up with the updated log level? Thanks

Starting now, all test run output will be sent to the Test Result panel, while test discovery output will be sent to the "Python" output channel instead of the "Python Test Log" channel. Sorry for the delay, can you try running the command from the command palette User View Container: Focus on Test Explorer View and see what shows up in that view?

I don't see that option in either the vscode window when I am remoteed in or when I use the vscode window for my host.

I do see 'Test Results: Focus on Test Results View'. This is what happens when I select it
