Win11/WSL2/Ubuntu some GUI apps become unresponsive after computer wakes from sleep

Freshly installed WSL2 two weeks ago.

Certain applications, specifically:

• firefox
• nautilus
• Jan.ai

become unresponsive after the computer wakes from sleep. The windows remain, "ps" shows the processes are still around, but trying to click on menus, input text, etc., will not work.

The wsl2 shell is fine and responds to commands, so I do not need to restart the WSL session and can kill and restart the above applications.

Other applications appear to respond ok to sleep / wake, have tested the below and they are fine:

• VLC
• Emacs

Steps to reproduce:

1. In a WSL2 terminal window, apt install firefox (or any of the known bad apps above)
2. Start firefox
3. Put computer to sleep (do not only lock the computer, it MUST be put to sleep)
4. Wake computer - this can be 1 minute or so later
5. Check firefox window for responsiveness

WSL logs:

No response

Expected behavior:

All applications remain responsive after computer wakes

Actual behavior:

Certain applications become unresponsive

I have the same issue running Debian 12 on a Windows 11 laptop :

I'm using terminator with wslg, and terminator systematically become unresponsive after an hibernation/resume of the laptop.

The terminator processes are still running, the windows are still there, but unresponsive :

• the window decorators (minimize/maximize, etc) don't work anymore
• I can't use keyboard or mouse on the windows.

However, I can kill terminator from another shell (eg. the Windows Terminal) with a killall terminator and I get a windows popup asking for confirmation (?!) and terminator processes are terminated.

Then I can restart terminator and it work with no issues anymore... until the next hibernation !

Yup that describes my situation perfectly. It is strange it only affects some apps but not all. Also there were some prior reports of similar unresolved bugs that stated the issue also appeared with screen saver / lock screen / screen background, but I have tested those scenarios and it only occurs when the computer goes to sleep.
