Must WSLg run on WSL2?

Must WSLg run on WSL2? My Windows 10 version is 1803 and I have difficulty in upgrading to WSL2. So, I hope I can run WSLg on my Windows 10 command window by simply typing wslg, and then I can run ubuntu GUI software that needs GPU acceleration without seeing any error messages.

Please let me know if it is feasible, or just a rejoice too soon.

tl;dr WSL1 is not capable of handling all the requests from the components of WSLg.

It's probably pretty close to impossible to get wslg to run on top of wsl1, as if leans into the image foundation that wsl2 uses for it's system distro support

For some reason, I can't upgrade my Windows version. If I install a newer Windows in a VM and install WSL2 in it, can I run WSLg on this WSL2? Is there any requirements for the VM hypervisor? Is VMWare Workstation 15 Pro OK, or do I have to use Hyper-V?
