ATproto is a decentralized social internet which is very open and supports adding any type of data to a users PDS.
This is a really big idea and since I am not that familiar with the backend architecture of Monkeytype, I totally understand any objections. But I think it would be interesting to at least discuss if there would be any possibilities to port Monkeytype to ATproto, be it either just an export functionality where the user logs in with their handle or the option to fully save all the data just on ATproto.
This idea could potentially extend to migrate the whole backend to ATproto, which I think would benefit Monkeytype in general, as storing data on ATproto has the benefit, that we decouple frontend (also called appviews in ATproto) from the responsibility of storing all the data. So maybe there is future where Monkeytype does not depend on a dedicated database anymore, but can benefit from the open internet that powers many other appviews (the biggest one being Bluesky of course) already.
Another option would be to create a fork of Monkeytype based on ATproto if there is the desire for a clean typewriter integrated in ATproto.
Share your thoughts. Theoretically or practically. I would be interested in reading many different opinions.
